We are really in for it this week. We ended up right in the doghouse. Doghouse Pizza that is, and it was a wonderful experience. Housed in a warehouse industrial area off the beaten path in Melbourne is a surprise. You don't expect a pizza place to be in an industrial area, but why not. We walked through the door and were pleasantly surprised by the decor. High ceilings with ducts and girders exposed, and Grateful Dead and other rock posters all over the walls. A wide open seating area with plenty of room and a visible clean kitchen from the counter area.
Counter service for your order with a friendly and inviting staff, and then sit back and wait for your pie to arrive. We of course ordered a large pepperoni and were surprised when it arrived. It was cut party style and it was a Jersey style with all the toppings to the edge. We didn't know what to expect, but that wasn't it.
Party style was the right choice for this pizza. It will shine at any party you have and probably be the highlight of your event. When we first bit into this pie we were underwhelmed for sure. Other Guy couldn't taste any flavor what so ever, but as this pizza cooled down, it began to shine. A creamy mozzarella, a mild but flavor pepperoni, and a full bodied sauce. The crispy thin crust put the cherry on top. This is a party pie and shines where other pies would wilt. If you want to see our immediate take on this pie, check out our video below.
Guy gave Doghouse pizza our highest rating due to the way this pie just kept getting better and better, now here is Guy with the Reheat Update.
Reheat Update with Guy: Ok, let's start this by saying that I did something unique with this reheat. First, I tried a piece at room temperature about two hours after first receiving the pie at Doghouse. It tastes excellent even two hours later. I refrigerated the rest and when I did reheat I did something a bit different, I tried a piece cold. It too was tasty. The crust cold was kind of chewy. The rest I reheated in the oven. Set the temperature at 425. Waited till it heated up and placed the remaining pieces in the center of the oven. After about 5-7 minutes, (waited till it was hot) I pulled it out. The crust maintained its crunch. Mmm. I really enjoyed this reheat. Thanks Doghouse.
If you want any more information about Doghouse Pizza, you can check them out at their website right here, or you can check out their Facebook page right here. The best way to check them out however, is to go and visit them for yourself, and recommend it, just let your pizza sit for a couple of minutes. Have a good conversation about how it looks, and then dig into it, you won't regret it.
