Leaning Tower of Pizza (Melbourne)

If you're driving on Wickham Rd. and you blink, you just might miss Leaning Tower of Pizza. In the corner of a small strip mall is a pizza place that has been serving the community for decades. Other Guy here, I used to frequent Leaning Tower quite often when I was in that area multiple times a week, and I can tell you, that the recipe has not changed one bit.

When you walk in, it is your typical pizzeria restaurant set up, but it has a family and homey feel to it. Hand painted mirror with Italian phrases are covering the walls. The staff greets you openly with smiles and a willingness to help you out.

We ordered our large pizza and checked out the sites. The dining area was very clean with the kitchen visible from all angles. Guy never made it to the bathroom, so we can't speak about those, but one would assume the cleanliness crosses over.

The pizza arrived hot and ready to go. We dug in after our usual photoshoot, and got hit with that initial zing of flavor that Leaning Tower is known for. The cheese strikes you first with it's nice salty flavor and good pull, then the homestyle sauce fills in those hearty gaps. The crust is a traditional hand tossed, so it's a little thicker than your standard New York Style. The pepperoni is beef based with a slight kick to the back of your throat, just to let you know that you shouldn't forget about it.

If you want to see what we thought on the scene, check out the video below. There is a little behind the scenes moment at the end.

Reheat Update: Guy here for the reheat updated. I preheated the oven to 425 this time. Once it reached temperature I placed the slices in the oven. Left them in there approximately 5-6 minutes, just until the cheese was sizzling and the slices where hot. This pie reheated well. The reheat created a nice crisp crunch to the crust. I was disappointed that I only had two slices to reheat as I thoroughly enjoyed them. I recommend of you go to Leaning Tower, get the biggest pie you can...then save some for reheating later.

Leaning Tower gets a high rating of 4 Dancing Pepperonis. We definitely recommend you going and giving them a try yourself. They've been in the area for so long for a reason. If you want more information about Leaning Tower, you can check out their Facebook page right here.
