Wagon Wheel Pizza (Palm Bay)

We took a drive south on I 95 to hit the Wagon Wheel. Wagon Wheel Pizza that is. It is located right off of Palm Bay Rd. The dining area was clean and well organized. The atmosphere was retro pool hall. They even used old pool table lights for their lighting. With all kinds of retro tchotchkes on the walls and shelves gave it that homey family feel. Very clean from dining area to kitchen. The cook was even wearing a hair net on his beard. Would that be a beard net then? The menus were nice with very legible print, that was clear to read.

Soon after we sat down, a server was at our table willing to take our drink order. We did our usual water and a soda. Then we ordered our standard, large pepperoni pizza. When we arrived we were one of only 3 tables of people, but the place filled up fast, and it wasn't the dinner hour. We like to go earlier, so that we have the place to ourselves for the most part, but after about a half an hour, it was packed with just about every table full.

It turns out, that the server we ordered with, wasn't really our server. Our server came up as soon as she was available and introduced herself to us. It was a nice gesture on her part, and let us know that they have some incredible servers, that are willing to pick up some slack when someone isn't readily available. Our server was on the ball. Got our pizza out to us in good time (a little longer than other places, but worth the wait), and even though it was busy, she had a good eye on our table, so that we got prompt service when it was needed. When the glass of water was empty, she was over asking if we wanted a refill as the glass hit the table.

The pizza was good. We got the 16 inch traditional round. Sweet sauce and mozzarella, with a mild spicy pepperoni. All the flavors blended well together. The sauce had a nice oregano flavor that gave it that authentic Italian flare. As you can see from the picture, it was loaded with pepperoni. I counted a minimum of 5 pepperoni touching any given slice, and in most cases it was more. As delicious as it was, there was one downside, and that was the crust. It was a bit chewy at the end, and as it cooled became chewy throughout. It wasn't a tough chewy, just enough to make you work for it. Despite the crust being chewy, it had a great flavor.

The unique thing about Wagon Wheel, is that they have two styles of pizza. The traditional round, and a Sicilian style. We had initially planned on getting both to review, but when we looked on the menu, we noticed that the Sicilian would take 45 minutes. We made an executive decision at that point. We would come back for the Sicilian if the traditional round met our high standards. Suffice it to say, we will be heading back in the future to try the Sicilian, and we are really looking forward to it. We may even take a guest reviewer with us for that second first review.

For our immediate reactions, just watch the video below.

Guy here, I just wanted to give you that update on reheating the pizza and how it tasted: The pizza tastes really good even warmed up later.  I reheated it using a toaster oven set at 450 degrees. Reheat time was about ten minutes, it transformed a delicious pizza with a chewy crust to a delicious pizza with a firm crust. It's definitely a pizza that reheats very well.
