Mangia and Bevi Pizzeria Napoletana (Cocoa Beach)

In a small strip mall at the corner of A1A and 520, is the newest addition to the Space Coast pizza culture. Mangia and Bevi Pizzeria Napoletana is quickly making a name for itself, by doing things the old world way. A Napoli style pizza that would make the ancient Roman Gods drool for a bite and forgo ambrosia.

Upon entering Mangia and Bevi Pizzeria Napoletana, you are greeted by the friendly owners and staff, most of which are from Italy. They didn't just bring themselves and their recipes, they also import all their ingredients from Salerno, Italy. The interior is sparse but neat and nice, with canvases depicting famous Italian films on the wall. One small wall near the front is decorated with pizza paddles and the word "EAT" in bold red letters, which is part of their name Mangia ='s Eat and Bevi ='s Drink.

The centerpiece of the whole place is the copper coated stone fire oven in the middle of the open kitchen area. It is on display for all to see, and is quite remarkable as a functional piece of art.

We ordered the Diavola which is on their menu under the listing of Pizza Rossa (Red). It is their version of the tried and true pepperoni pizza. Since it is a Napoli style pizza, they only have one size. A 12 inch that is quartered, which is they way it is supposed to be. The crust is light and fluffy with the proper amount of stretch when you pull it apart. It reminds you of warm fresh out of the oven Italian bread. The sauce is light and airy with a wonderful zesty tomato flavor that is made with Cherry tomatoes from Salerno, Italy. The mozzarella is creamy with a wonderful stretchy pull. The spicy pepperoni isn't overbearing and has that nice snap that hits you in the back of the throat. Topped with fresh basil leaves and a little EVOO (extra virgin olive oil), the flavor fills your mouth and excites your taste buds.

Before we finished the first pie, Guy was up and ordering another one. This time he went for the Salsiccia, which has that same remarkable sauce, mozzarella, basil and EVOO, with the difference being Italian sausage and roasted peppers. Guy of course got it half peppers and half not, since peppers don't agree with him. The smell of those fresh roasted peppers set this pie apart. The freshness of them only added to the freshness of the sauce, and made you feel like you were biting into a summer's day. The mild Italian sausage allowed you to taste more of the flavors of all the other ingredients that the spicy pepperoni overpowered a bit. Regardless of what pizza you order here, you are in for a taste bud experience.
