Pub Americana (Cocoa Village)

In the heart of historic downtown Cocoa Village sits a little piece of Americana, Pub Americana to be exact. A corner building that holds the charm of the old village opens into a speakeasy type of experience. Old black and white photos of celebrities of the past mingle with prohibition era images, and the occasional bar related sign or poster.

Aged wooden tables with comfortable chairs are throughout the restaurant. There are two seating areas, a defined dining area and an area around the bar. We chose the bar area. the brick walls were balanced with large picturesque windows that opened to a quiet little street along the side of the building.

We were greeted as we entered by our server, who was smiling and upbeat. It wasn't soon after we sat down that she was at our table taking our drink order. Normally this is where we would just order our usual; of a water, a soda and a large pepperoni pizza, but that wasn't the case here. Pub Americana does things a bit different. They only offer one size of pizza, and it is called a pizzette. We changed things up, and ordered a pizzette for each of us, and since Pub Americana does things differently, we did so as well.

They will make your standard pepperoni pizza on request, but that isn't their main focus when it comes to pizza. They focus more on an artisanal side of things, and they are doing it right. The pizza comes served on a wooden cutting board that has the restaurant logo carved into it.

It took a little longer than usual for our pizzettes to arrive, but it was worth the wait. These are small pizzas from a stone oven, and they have the look of a pizza you would get in Napoli. Napoli style is usually a small pizza for one with a fluffy crust, light charring, and delicious flavors. These pizzettes lived up to that standard. For the next part of this review, we are splitting up writing duties and each of us will tell you about our experience.

Guy here,  I had the Carne, it was a meat lovers dream. It came loaded with spicy sausage, ham, pulled pork and bacon. It was a beautiful looking pizzette that didn't disappoint. It was full of meat flavor, the spicy sausage definitely was spicy but not overpowering the other meats, it was just spicy enough to stand out. The ham was simply delicious, the pulled pork very flavorful and the bacon while a bit chewy still retained a smokey flavor. The crust was fluffy on the inside and had a crunchy exterior. Put all together this was a delicious pizza. One I highly recommend. If your a meat lover, then this pizzette is for you.

Other Guy here, and I had the Cubano. It is their take on a traditional Cuban sandwich and despite it not having mustard on it, it was downright fantastic. I'm going to tell you why I didn't miss that mustard flavor, and it was the homemade marinara sauce that was the base of this wonderful little pizzette. It had a delicious rustic flavor that when mixed with the creaminess of the mozzarella and then the complex flavor of the toppings, it just came to life. Let's talk about those toppings. It had everything your traditional Cuban has, pulled pork, ham, and pickles. The pulled pork had a delightful sweetness coming from it, that mingled well with the natural saltiness of the ham. Then you throw in the tanginess of those sliced pickles on top, and you are taken a way to a summer day in Havana. That soft fluffy crust just brings it all together for a mixture of flavors that erupt in your mouth. As you saw from Guy, they have other choices, but I will be hard pressed not to order this again when I go back, and I will go back.

We made a fun video for you that show our immediate take on these delightful little pizzettes. We hope you enjoy it. It was a lot of fun to make.

We added a little bonus clip at the end for your mocking pleasure. Feel free to comment or compliment.

As you saw from the video, we had a split review, and that was due to having our very own pizzettes, but that isn't all that goes into our review. We also have to talk about the cleanliness and the outstanding service that we received. The dining area was spotless and looked almost as if it was brand new. the service was top notch, and what you would expect form a place of this caliber. The food, well, you have already saw what we thought of that, and so for a combined pizza review, cleanliness and service we have no choice, and not because most speakeasies were run by the mob, but to give Pub Americana our highest rating of Five Dancing Pepperonis, and if you don't know what that means you clearly haven't been watching the videos.
