Straight Outta Philly (Rockledge)

Sitting alongside US 1 in Rockledge is the well known Peddler's Village, and in Peddler's Village is a little taste of the City of Brotherly Love. Straight Outta Philly lives up to it's name, with Philadelphia sports memorabilia and photos of Rocky all over the walls. It has a quaint rustic feel with a wooden raftered ceiling and checkered table cloths on the tables.

We had a first for us, we were actually greeted outside as we got out of our car. They are that friendly at Straight Outta Philly. It was probably more coincidence than the norm, but we will take it. This was actually our second time going to this location. You may remember a little place called the Purple Rain Cafe. Well, it closed shortly after we posted our review. It was business issues and nothing to do with us, we loved it, but Straight Outta Philly quickly made up for the loss, and we were happy to try their pizza.

This is another one of those places that is known for their cheese steak sandwiches. That has a tendency to scare people away from a pizza, but we take all challenges and will try any pizza anywhere. You order at the counter and then grab a table for table service. The wait is not long and you get a piping hot pizza delivered right to your table. They keep everything straight by having a name attached to the order. They call your name and then serve up deliciousness.

Straight Outta Philly pulled a bit of a fast one on us, but we aren't complaining. That isn't the standard large pepperoni, that is their Oxford Ave. The description on the menu is simply: "Loaded pepperoni", and they are not wrong, as you can see above.

We counted 18 pepperoni on one slice. It was truly awe inspiring. Let's talk about that pie now. It isn't just a ton of pepperoni. It is a pub style pizza, but with their own twist on it. Most pub styles are much smaller, and this one comes out a full 18 inches. What makes it a pub style is how they spread the toppings, sauce and cheese included, all the way to the edge of a crispy cracker like crust, and sometimes over. That over the edge is one of the best parts. You get that burnt cheese crispiness that is only found in the grilled cheese world, but this is better, because it is attached to a great pizza. The sauce is mild with a light sweetness and a hint of oregano. The pepperoni starts off mild but then hits you with a little kick of spice, and the creaminess of their mozzarella and provolone blend bring this pie all together. They told us, that they are still working on their cheese blend, so it could change in the future, and if it is anything like the blend they told us they had up north, it is going to be an experience to behold. The flavor is finished off with a light flavor of garlic that comes from the crust. We can't image this pizza getting better than it already is. One warning: With this much pepperoni, you have to expect grease, and this one has it. If you are afraid of getting your fingers a little greasy, don't worry. Straight Outta Philly has you covered with rolls of paper towels on the table.

You can find out exactly how we felt about it directly after eating it, but watching our video below.

Let's get down to the rating part. The inside is clean as whistle with the staff cleaning each table as patrons leave. The bathrooms are well maintained for being in an old building. The staff is beyond friendly and helpful. They want you to ask questions about what they do. They have a joy in their voices when they explain how they do what they do, and why they do it. Then there is the food. We can't speak to the cheese steaks and other products, but we have heard great things. We can speak of the pizza, and it is top notch. Fresh ingredients, homemade sauce passed down from father to son, and that wonderful all the way to the edge toppings, pub style. We can't possibly give this anything other than our top rating of 5 Dancing Pepperoni.

We had a wonderful experience meeting the owners, staff, and enjoying the pizza. If you want to have a similar experience you can find out more information about Straight Outta Philly by checking out their Facebook page right here Straight Outta Philly Facebook. Make sure you check out the menu, and give that pizza a try. It is outstanding.
