We headed south on 95 for our next destination, to a restaurant that is further towards the edge of the county than any we have gone to before. Fired Up Coal Oven Pizzeria and Sports Bistro. You could almost miss it except for the bright red letters calling out "Coal Pizza".
We walked in and were surprised by the elegance of the interior. Dark colors and wood with a brick facade adorn the walls, tables, and floors. It has a calmness to it, that lets you feel relaxed as soon as you step inside. Towards the left sits a bar that overlooks the kitchen area, with the coal oven featured in a prominent position at the far back corner.
We chose a large booth along the wall. Plenty of seating available for a big crowd, and it appears that they are doing construction an a small party room, that should add to the atmosphere.
The service was top notch. Our server took our order and got our drinks before we could blink. Our usual order of a large pepperoni pizza came out fast and hot. We were ready to dig in.
We had differing opinions on this pizza so, we are going to split this review up to give each side of the story.
Guy here, and I really enjoyed this pizza. The pizza arrived nice and hot. It had a nice taste that I enjoyed at first. As a piping hot pizza, this was very tasty, sadly that excellent taste did not hold as it cooled. My initial thoughts on this pizza changed. The end result to me is a four rating. The crust was the star. A few slight adjustments and this could be an excellent pizza.
Other Guy here, I did enjoy this pizza, but not as much as Guy did. I did really like the crust which was soft and tore apart like a nice Italian bread, but that was the one strong point for me. The sauce tasted like it was from a can, but I can't confirm that. It could very well be home made, but it has a tinny taste to it. The mozzarella, although creamy, had very little flavor. The pepperoni was mild with a nice pork flavor, and there were hints of rosemary in either the sauce or the dough. I couldn't quite track down where it was coming from. This pizza wasn't bad, but it wasn't very good either. It was just ok. I can only give this pie the rating of a 3.

Guy here with the Reheat Update: I reheated the leftover slice in a toaster oven at 450 degrees until it was hot. While it did maintain its New York style flop, overall it leaned towards being bland. The crust still maintained its Italian bread sticks crispness and taste. Again, the crust was the star.
We had differing opinions on this pie. Guy really liked it, but Other Guy has definitely tasted better. The staff was warm and welcoming and on the ball. The restaurant was clean and tidy and looked great. Clean bathrooms top of the experience, but we still have a dilemma. Guy gave it a 4 and Other Guy gave it a 3, so what do we do here? We agree to disagree and say, give it a try if you want, and see which one of us right.
