Lazy Moon Pizza (Orlando)

Less than twenty miles from Disney World, sits the hippest of hipster spots. Lazy Moon Pizza has their Mills/50 location right near the downtown area of Orlando. With a myriad of doors that you have to pass, telling you that the entrance is coming up, you finally walk through the front and look at the counter where you order. On looking around, you see communal seating with high tops and a scattering of small two seating tables in the dining area. The counter and main bar is divided by a Bocce Ball court that can be seen from the dining area and pizza bar. Creative and cool murals line the walls of this industrial style interior.

The staff is helpful and courteous, and it seemed like there was always one member of the staff walking around cleaning of sweeping the area. On the day that we went, Lazy Moon was experiencing a small problem. There was a busted water main in the area, so the soda machine was out of service. They only had iced tea, and water that was made from a supply of water that they had separate for making the pizza dough. That didn't bother us much, we were there for the pizza.

After placing our order at the counter, it wasn't long after we sat down that the pizza was coming out to our table. Their pizzas are larger than life. They offer a 30 inch pizza, but we went with their standard large, which is a 20 inch. It barely fit on the pizza tray, but it was a beautiful display. They do their pizzas a little different, by going; dough, sauce, pepperoni, and then finally cheese. It definitely induced a mouth watering effect.

The pizza had fragrances and flavors of Italian herbs. The mozzarella was smooth and creamy with a light smokey flavor to it, while the pepperoni was mild with a nice charred smokiness that complimented the mozzarella. The sauce had a richness that was accentuated with oregano, while the dough had a deep flavor of rosemary in it.

As we said earlier, Lazy Moon does their pies, just a little bit different. With putting the pepperoni under the cheese, it holds the grease inside of the pizza, and doesn't allow it to drain off the top with that NY flop. That was something that bothered Guy. He had an overbearing greasy aftertaste that was difficult for him to get past. To see our immediate reaction to the pizza from Lazy Moon, watch the video below, and you aren't going to want to miss this one. There is some controversy with this pizza.

Due to the water main rupture, the bathrooms were closed, so we can't tell you about their appearance, but based on the cleanliness of the dining, kitchen and front counter area, we have to assume that they are top notch. The staff is friendly and helpful. Despite having differing opinions on the flavor of this pizza, we both managed to agree on a 4 for the rating.

Reheat Update: Other Guy here with a reheat update. I put two slices in the oven at 350 degrees for 5-10 minutes. As  you may know I like to just heat the pizza up and not cook it anymore than it already has been. I dare say that the flavor was even more pronounced after hanging out in the fridge for a day. The rosemary and oregano just came forward even more. I do have to say, that the reheat didn't fix the minor problem of the chewy crust. Maybe if I reheated at a higher temperature and cooked it a little, it would have crisped it up. Regardless, it was a fantastic tasting slice.

Lazy Moon Pizza has two locations for your convenience. One near UCF and the other near the downtown Orlando area.
