Pappagallos (Satellite Beach)

We took a relaxing ride south on A1A Beachfront Avenue (you know you sang that like Vanilla Ice). Our objective, was to try a new pizza place by the name of Pappagallos. Neither of us had ever been to this restaurant, which made it perfect for our first review. We could go into it without any prejudice or bias. Pappagallos is located in Satellite Beach, Florida, just a short drive from the Kennedy Space center. With a beachside view from their oceanside patio, you could watch a launch, while enjoying a slice.

Let's talk about those slices. That is, after all, what we are here to do. Oh, we need to tell you about our 1 simple rule. When we go to a pizza place for the first time, we only order a pepperoni pizza. The reasoning behind this is, that if you can't do the fundamentals of a pepperoni pie, there is no reason for us to come back and try anything else. Pappagallos was no disappointment. When the pizza arrived, in less than 15 minutes, it was piping hot and smelled of great promise. We had to wait though, we needed to get some pictures for you, and shoot some video, which will be coming up a little further down the blog. Here is what we saw.

That picture was posted to our instagram, so if you ever want a preview of what we are eating, just click on this link. As you can see, it is loaded with pepperoni, and what delicious pepperoni it was. It had a mild kick to it, that gave you that little tingle in the back of your throat. The mixture of sauce and mozzarella gave it a tiny bit of a sweet flavor to it. That mixed with the spice of the pepperoni was just delightful. It was a burst of different flavors in your mouth. The pepperoni also had that nice little smoky char on the edge, that gives it that extra touch of crispy. The crust is not a throwaway thing either. This is a pizza that you want to eat in it's entirety. No crust will be left lonely on your plate at Pappagallos.

The biggest surprise about this pizza was how light it was. It does not, just sit in your stomach. You can share a large pie with a buddy like we did, and you can walk out feeling content. There was no need for us to loosen our belts and get rolled out the front door. It also kept it's flavor as it cooled down. The first slice was just as good as the last one.

Ok, there has to be a negative right? We do have one, but it may be the lamest negative of all time. The negative of this pizza was the cut. I know, lame right? Slices were odd sizes and the cut didn't go all the way through, so we had to do a little extra work to get each slice from the pan to our plate. If that is the negative, I'll take it every time.

The service was fantastic. If you get the luck to meet Jodi (not sure of the spelling), you will be in good hands. She was courteous, prompt and on top of things. We had no need to ask for anything, because she anticipated our needs. Whether it be extra napkins or a refill on our drinks. We didn't get to test her on getting any leftovers in a box, because there were no leftovers.

The atmosphere is nice. There are eccentric paintings all over the walls, and everything is clean. Tables are neatly alligned with plenty of room to move through the dining area. They have a full liquor bar if you would like to have a cocktail with your meal. Overall, it has that cool beachside hangout vibe to it.

The price is right where you want it to be. We had a large pepperoni pizza, a large Cherry Coke, and a water. The total came to $15.56 before tip. Since our service was so good, we made sure to leave a worthy tip.

If you want to see our immediate reactions to Pappagallos, just watch the video below. We will be adding a video to each one of our reviews, to give you that first hand reaction. We will try to provide you with some background information on each place, and what we think when the taste is still fresh in our mouths.

Let's take a moment and review. Here are the four factors that we will be grading on: Cleanliness, Price, Service and most importantly, Taste. Those all go into deciding on where to eat pizza. This is our rating for Pappagallos; Cleanliness gets a 5. Very clean dining room, bathrooms and the food prep area. Price gets a 4. Very reasonable ( a 5 ratings is going to be really tough to do and still get a great pizza). Service gets a 5. Our waitress Jodi as I said earlier was prompt and treated us as if we were long time regulars. Taste gets a 5. This was a a pizza that we can brag about to everyone that we know. this is a pizza that we will go out of our way to get again. The grease was the only negative, but in reality that is if you are a napkin dabber, even with that, we recommend dabbing your napkin and enjoying the great flavor of this pizza.

We can't recommend Pappagallos more, and were thrilled that for our first time out, we got what we think is one of the top 3 pizzas in the area. We have our benchmark for what we think is the best, and we are looking forward to finding one that is even better.      We will be going to another location next month, and as soon as we have a date locked down, we will put a post up here so that you can be ready for what comes next. There is also the little box over to the right that will allow you to receive each post in your email. The only problem with viewing this blog that way, is that you won't be able to get all the features of this blog, namely the video portion. We hope that you enjoyed the review of Pappagallos in Satellite Beach and as always, love and pizza slices.
