San Remo Restaurant (Melbourne)


     Nestled in the corner of US 1 and Eau Gallie Blvd, is a staple of pizza and Italian cuisine in Melbourne. San Remo has been serving the area since 1976 and doing it with pride. Upon entering, you find yourself whisked away and into the Italian kitchen of a grandmother. Renaissance style paintings adorn some walls while jars of spices and ingredients line shelves on others.

    We were greeted with a smile and a hearty hello that made us immediately feel welcome. San Remo had a spacious dining area that spreads through two large rooms. The kitchen is tucked away behind walls, but the smell of pizza lofted through the air. You really feel at home here, Everything is meant to give you that home meal experience, but with dishes that you couldn't make yourself.

    Although Guy had eaten here several times before, he never had the pizza. That is what we were here for, and we weren't disappointed. The presentation was beautiful. The pepperoni was evenly distributed throughout the pie. The cut was near perfection, and the small wonderful puddles of grease brought that glisten out on the pizza. From any angle, this was a beautiful pie. It came out piping hot and gave the mozzarella the proper amount of gooeyness. When you watch the video below, you will see that first slice slide. The sauce was chunky and lets you know that it is homemade and not from a can. It was a spicy marinara that was perfect with the blend of mozzarella and naturally flavored pepperoni. The crust was something that needed to be experienced on its own. It was light and fluffy with a thin layer of crispiness that held it all together. The flavor was so delightful, that we believe you could eat just the baked dough by itself. 


     When you pick up that first slice, you will get a little of that first slice slide, like we said, but then you get that nice New York flop that is the trademark of a New York style pizza. With your first bite you are hit with the milky smoothness of the cheese, the light salty, and spicy flavor of the pepperoni, and that kick from the spicy marinara. Then your nose is tantalized with all the wonderful Italian spices that were used to make that sauce. Oregano is prevalent but not overbearing, ( Other guy here for a little side note on the scent of this pizza. There is this unusual but very pleasant floral scent, that can't be explained. It puts this pizza over the moon on the scent scale.) as well as that scent of the fresh marinara. We fell in love with this pizza with the first bite. We know that has been happening a lot lately, and we aren't complaining. We have some wonderful pizza places around here.



     San Remo is a true dining experience, and because of that we can't offer it anything less than a 5. It is clean inside and out, the service is friendly, prompt, and informative. The pizza was outstanding. There is really no more to say about what San Remo offers.
